Hideous Housing

Summerlin, a development on the west side of Vegas, is a trailer park for the rich. Houses are built 2 feet from each other all the way to the foothills of the mountains - this is paradise? The West has wide open vistas, yet people insist on living like sardines. If you're lucky, you'll get a view of other sardine dwellings in the valley, and very far away, you can make out the Strip.

  1. What a scary place to live. I prefer my trailer court with much more space between.

  2. That's a view on Vegas I haven't seen, lol ! I only saw the strip. but of course people who work there have to have a place to live there too. Looks not that bad to me ! We in Europe are so used to live like sardines, that we don't even realize !

  6. I guess it is just easier and more profitable to make developments where houses are closer together. Interesting to see nonetheless since I know so little about Vegas. Glad to have found your blog.

  7. Little pink houses for you and me.

Is land that expensive? I guess it is.

    Love the third shot!

  8. Gosh - they are really close, but in the city houses normally are crowded together. I prefer a bit of breathing space, myself. Nice pics, W.

  10. i never understand the rationale of building houses one on top of another other than GREED of the developer(s). Vegas had wide open spaces but I suppose the land price was premium when purchased initially.

    good captures.
    have a great week.

  11. Greed of the developers is right. Manhattan -well, they have to build up. But the American West is all wide open spaces. Why come here and live like this? Big, beautiful windows overlooking your neigbor in his underwear.

  12. I guess it costs too much to have more plumming and asphalt to make it less tight. It is ridiculous when that place is in the middle of the desert and there sure is plenty of space.

  13. Yikes! Doesn't look like a great place to live. Space is probably the greatest luxury of all. With space comes silence. A luxury most people cannot afford.

  14. Too bad, but I can't talk ... we live in a townhouse and have a postage stamp backyard, in the middle of town. What I don't get, why do the houses have to look all alike -- just the *color* is different... same style, same number of stories, no personality!
