Michael Mizrachi Does The Impossible

The $50,000 buy-in HORSE tournament - now called the Players Championship - has to be the most prestigious and difficult tournament - nothing but top players enter. Michael Mizrachi did the impossible - he's won it twice. I overheard him tell his brother - let's go and pick up the $1.4 million and put 1 million up for the One Drop tournament right there and then.

Django Vegas!

Ursula Knudsen of Fishtank playing the saw
Who knew that the music of the great jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt was alive and well in Vegas? What a fantastic show the City Cultural Affairs office put on at the 5th St School.

Symphony Park In Vegas

To think I came to Vegas to be a low-life - suddenly there's a symphony hall, parks with art, entire spaces devoted to culture, all beautifully done.

Elephants' Welcome In Vegas

Barnum & Bailey brought some elephants to the Welcome sign and laid out a huge buffet for them - loaves of bread, corn, apples and their favorite, watermelons. The only thing they didn't eat were the carrots - don't like them anymore than I do.

The Heart Attack Grill

The Heart Attack Grill on Fremont St had to call an ambulance twice already for customers having heart attacks - no wonder they make you eat in a hospital gown. And the health inspector gave it several demerits for being unsanitary. Why even bother inspecting it? It is what it says - you come here to die.

Tropfest At The Cosmopolitan

James Woods

Anthony LaPaglia
The Tropfest short film festival at the Cosmopolitan was a wonderful evening under the stars - free admission, everyone was handed a cushion and sat around the Boulevard pool - really well done. And James Woods is god.

The Mob Museum

Actually, it's the Museum Of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement. I went there on a Wednesday afternoon and the Mob Museum was mobbed - you give the people what they want and they will come.

At The Mob Museum In Vegas

The Kefauver Hearings

Visitor posing in the electric chair from Sing Sing prison.

Barber's chair from Park Sheraton Hotel in NYC - can't be the original chair that the mobster Anastasia was whacked in.
The Mob Museum is well presented, but not enough gore for me - how about putting some bullet holes and a splattering of blood on that barber's chair? How about some burn marks on the electric chair?
