Boulder City Statues
Boulder City has a lot of statues depicting the workers who built Hoover Dam and their families. The top guy made sure all the bathrooms had toilet paper and he cleaned them with that big brush. All this reminds me of growing up in communist Poland, where we had a lot of statues dedicated to the proletariat, but the women weren't nearly so stylish - they usually wielded an axe, too, and the children had nothing to laugh about.

Those statues are great. Very lively indeed.
ReplyDeleteIt´s a good idea to have statues for common people like the toilet guy. I don´t know what the woman did but she sure is way too posh for the toilet guy.
ReplyDeleteIs that a toilet guy? What a great statue! In fact, I like all three of them...
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful. Let's hear it for the toilet guy and the whimsical lady and the happy child. Amen.
ReplyDeleteThere sertainly was nothing to even smile about before communist plague withdrew but even then, the Polish girls were exquisite dressers.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to give them recognition!
ReplyDeleteNice statues... I liked the happy girl very much.
These are wonderful statues. I love the one of the child.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the statues.
ReplyDeleteNice angles: Straight on for the male, from the side for the female and looking up for the child.
ReplyDeleteTo Arija: yes, Polish girls are quite snazzy - my mother looked like a Dior model even under communism. I was referring to the socialist art that depicted them digging ditches all day long - hardly glamorous.
ReplyDeleteAnd that statue above of the worker's wife... that's not a worker's wife, that's a middle class woman. But who's quibbling...
The statues are very nice, but I didn't recognize the toilet paper, lol ! It's the first time I see toilet paper in Bronze !
ReplyDeleteWhat great statues, and I love the comparison with your homeland. Toilet rolls in bronze - wonderful!
ReplyDeleteJanice.
I really enjoy statues, W, but these certainly have a different roll - oh..I mean role...
ReplyDeleteI liked your previous tour of Boulder City/Lake Mead area, too.
You are absolutely right about socialist art, these of yours are very nice and seem to mock just that. First one is my favorite of a funny bunch.
