Bums In Vegas

Actually, the guy in the middle is not a bum, he's a busker who plays the accordion beautifully.

  1. Seems to me that a busker is just a panhandler with an ever so modest ammount of talent.

  2. Busking has a great tradition. Yvonne Elliman, of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Staying Alive" was spotted busking in Leicester Square by Andrew Lloyd Webber and got the part. Just because they're in the street, doesn't mean they're hopeless.

  3. We do what we do and talent can be found in so many places. What is lacking is open minds to look beyond the first picture/thought. Great post, as always!

  4. bums are everywhere, even in the richest cities. i guess we'd never understand a person until we walk in his shoes.

  5. I do love the way you take photos; they're really very beautiful whatever the subject matter.

  6. Seems very sad that there are still homeless people in a city so obviously all about money...

    Great shots!

  7. It is the reality that bums are part of all the cities however super rich they may be.

  8. Bums are in every country in the world and I feel sad that it still has to be this way.Now when looking at Las vegas I can't stop thinking maybe they lost all their money while gambling?

  9. This is a theme so different from the usual in your pictures. I think you portraited correctly the bums, and the busker, showing the place of their choice, which says a lot about any of them.

  10. As said above they are everywhere, here too. Maybe in Vegas they lost everything in a Casino ??

  12. Maybe they lost a lot in the casino as Riet said.

  14. Great shots and I'm often reminded of the saying: there but for grace go I. The actual saying has God in there but I prefer not to think of it in those terms for then I'd have to blame a God for the bad stuff too which I don't. It's so often circumstances beyond our control beginning at a young age which shape our choices. That's how I see it. That's not to say people can't make their own destiny to an extent but usually even people from impoverished situations that make better lives for themselves have someone along the way who encourages them.

  15. These are marvelous shots in themselves. Thank you for the link below to help those impoverished. Actually, busking is a time honored tradition. The great harper Turlough O'Carolan, who was blind, busked a bit on the road.

  16. My brother owns his own company. One day he saw a guy with a 'will work for food' sign, so he offered him a job for the day. The guy told him no, he could make more money with the sign.

    Nice shots.

  17. The homeless are everywhere - children are the ones I really worry about. The homeless rate for children in our state increases every year. At least your climate is mostly mild - here it is either frigid or boiling - not hospitable even for sleeping in cars.

  18. These photos are amazing, especially the first one! I was not aware of the word 'bum', but I didn't need to check it out as, unfortunatelly, I'm also used to see this around here too....

  19. Bum, not a word you hear every day. The accordian guy is pretty awesome. Nice pics.
