The Bleak, Beautiful Desert

When you drive to Vegas, it's all desert - vast, desolate, never-ending, yet strangely beautiful, full of Joshua trees. And finally, signs of life.

  1. There are lots of different beautiful colors in that middle one. Nice.

  2. It's quite an unusual place really isn't it? What are the seasons like there? do you have them & do they match ours?

  3. You surprised us another time with this otherworldly and spectacular landscapes. This is so different from the city of lights and mirrors!

  4. Some of Las Vegas' greatest assets are not seen by Strip-bound tourists. There is some spectacular land just outside the city, and so much to see within, say, a three hour drive.

You could have a great vacation using LV as your hub to explore the surrounding area. I hope to do that eventually--a casino is a casino, but Red Rocks, China Ranch Date Farm, Valley of fire are truly unique. And those three are just a start--I left out the more obvious Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon.

  9. Thanks, Wolynski, for pointing out things besides the glitz and neon.

Anonymous reminded me that two of my favorite places on a previous trip:

    1. People talk about Red rock, but Valley of Fire is so much better.

    2. Also, I hiked on Mt. Charleston and had a wonderful day!

My next plan: river rafting below Hoover Dam.

  10. Hi W, I find your desert to be quite spectacular - i like the windblown, vast sandy spaces. I'm going to be traveling through NV soon - I look forward to seeing your landscape. PS The tree photo with the pastel hills is wonderful.
